Former priest, Alberto Athie, alleges that Cardinal Norberto Rivera, archbishop of Mexico City covered up at least 15 cases of priest sex abuse. Athie brought allegations of abuse in the late 90s against Father Marcial Maciel Degollado, the founder of the Legionaries of Christ who was eventually removed.
An editorial carried by the publication of the Archdiocese of Mexico City has referred to the proposed border wall of the Trump administration as “immoral,” and said that any Mexican businesses willing to work on the project would be “traitors to the homeland.” The country’s bishops have been outspoken in opposing the administration’s immigration policies.
