Republican U.S. House candidate Mark Greenberg has again criticized Rep. Elizabeth Esty for Democrats’ campaign research mentioning he’s Jewish.

Greenberg told WFSB-TV on Sunday that his religion should have no place in Democratic Party research. His campaign released an online ad last month criticizing Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee research that cited his religion along with his positions on issues, business practices and his comments on numerous topics.

Asked if he believes Esty is anti-Semitic, Greenberg said, “Well, I don’t know what she is.”

The Esty campaign said Greenberg knows her campaign had nothing to do with the opposition research and said religion is not an issue.

A spokesman for the Democratic House campaign committee said Greenberg is trying to distract attention from what Democrats called his agenda favoring special interests.
