Is it ethical to tell canvassing Jehovah’s Witnesses that I will read their literature when I know I actually won’t?

I have politely refused literature from other canvassers, but — admiring these ladies’ perseverance, ringing doorbells in a secular-liberal neighborhood like mine, where people are almost certain to turn them away — I felt compelled to be extra kind.

But maybe saying I will take and read their literature is not actually as kind as I mean it to be?
