My 2nd grader attends a private school that has students from a variety of backgrounds. The classes are small enough that he plans to invite all the boys in his class to his birthday party. One of the boys is Muslim; his parents, while not supporters of ISIS, nonetheless strongly espouse anti-Western views that make me and other parents uncomfortable. And they do this even at social gatherings, where we all try to avoid discussions of politics.

One or both parents usually accompany their children to these class birthday parties. I wouldn’t dream of not inviting the boy, but I also don’t want to hear – or have my son hear – the nastiness that sometimes comes out of these parents’ mouths toward the US. How should I handle this?
