I like to plan ahead, and I love the cost savings that making reservations in advance can generate. But I also like to stay as flexible as I can for as long as I can. So whenever I’m planning a trip or a vacation, I book multiple cars and multiple hotel rooms – all under variations of my name – and then, when I know my itinerary exactly I cancel every reservation but the one I want before incurring any cancellation fees.

Is this ethical? My husband says no, that I’m taking good, cheap hotel rooms and rental cars away from other travelers. But I say, why not? I’m being a savvy consumer. Other people could play the game the same way I do – and I bet they do!
