Over the recent holiday, I went to Mexico with my boyfriend where, on the spur of the moment, we rented a small cottage on the beach. I had a bad feeling when I saw it. But we liked the area. It was high season, and we didn’t feel like spending our time looking for a better place.

We were paying full price, and the place was a wreck. It didn’t actually function like a house. The shower was broken. The front door didn’t lock. The windows were jammed shut. Light bulbs were burnt out. Towels were stained.

The rental agent made an effort to fix these things, but refused to give us a break on the rent. So when we left (we had agreed to pay in cash), we gave ourselves a little break. Not much, but enough to make us feel like we hadn’t been ripped off.

What do you think?

Sincerely,
Righteous
