I come from a large, Catholic family and among my many cousins there are a wide range of views and opinions on all things Catholic — including divorce. I am (very happily) divorced, and I never paid much mind to the Church’s teaching on the matter.

I just reconnected with a same-generation cousin who is (very, very unhappily) married but, because of his Catholic faith (and, especially, that of his parents), has never felt comfortable even considering divorce. He recently wrote to me asking if he could come to visit and talk. I think he wants to see what divorced life looks like. Should I say yes?

Sincerely,
Single
