When Church leaders in the United States face new bioethical questions – such as surrounding abortion, euthanasia, or gender identity – they often turn to the Philadelphia-based National Catholic Bioethics Center.
Gerald McKenny Walter, Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame, teaches and writes on Christian ethics and the ethics of biotechnology. He spoke to Crux.
Pope Francis warned against the dangers of biotechnology during an audience with the Italian National Committee for Biosecurity, Biotechnologies and Life Sciences. “You also are asked to foresee and prevent the negative consequences that can cause a distorted use of the knowledge and ability to manipulate life,” he said.
