After being a victim of a campaign of insults and threats due to his work among the homeless in the city of São Paulo, Father Júlio Lancelotti received a phone call from Pope Francis on Oct. 10.
It’s a poorly kept secret that Pope Francis has a sweet tooth, with a particular weakness when it comes to ice cream. So it shouldn’t have been surprising that the “cold-call pontiff” was at it again this week, to thank an ice cream shop for the gift of several pounds of Italian gelato.
The “cold call pope” reached out and touched someone again on Palm Sunday, this time phoning the parents of a 21-year-old Argentinian woman whose body was found Saturday after an intense week-long national search, and whose death has galvanized a national movement to curb violence against women.
