Dutch parishes are missing out on thousands in donations and other sources of income as coronavirus measures prevent them from holding public Masses, according to research done by the Dutch Catholic weekly Katholiek Nieuwsblad.

Dutch Cardinal Wim Eijk gave an official reaction to the verdict in a landmark euthanasia case, in which a doctor who performed euthanasia on a woman suffering from severe dementia has been acquitted of murder. As the Netherlands prepare for elections, Catholic and Protestant church leaders have written a petition decrying the “exploitation of Christianity” by populist politicians. “The church isn’t a political party, nor is any political party a church,” the statement reads.
