A priest in California will spend three years in jail after being convicted of embezzling over $1 million. Prosecutors said he deposited 14 checks from parishioners into his personal account while he was pastor, although his lawyer argues he was not depositing the money for personal benefit.
In Michigan, a priest who has been accused of embezzlement, was in court asking that $800,000 seized by police as part of an investigation be released to him. He is accused of embezzling $100,000 or more, but the church is missing millions of dollars.
Priests in Indonesia’s Ruteng Diocese met with the apostolic nuncio in the country asking for the Vatican to intervene in a case of embezzlement of more than $100,000 in church funds by the local bishop. The bishop is accused of misappropriating the funds for a woman he was having an affair with.

Monsignor William A. Dombrow, a priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, faces federal charges of embezzling more than $500,000. He allegedly siphoned off funds intended for care of retired archdiocesan priests, who are credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors, at Villa St. Joseph where he served as the rector.
Prosecutors say 58-year-old Michelle Medrick embezzled the funds sometime between 2008 and last year. Medrick admitted to writing nearly 1,500 checks made payable to “cash” from Catholic Charities’ account.
