Leaders of Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States say the impact of Jesuit Father Adolfo Nicolas, former Jesuit superior general, will be felt in their universities for years to come.
The Jesuit General Curia in Rome announced that its former superior general, Father Adolfo Nicolas, died May 20 in Tokyo. He was 84.
Father Adolfo Nicolás, SJ, the former Superior General of the Jesuits, has written down his reminiscences of his conversations with Pope Francis after his election to the papacy. But he warns that given his advanced age, if something seems unlikely or odd, “it would be prudent first to verify and then to forgive.”
Jesuits gathered in Rome to elect a new superior general were invited to draw on ‘the audacity of the improbable’ during a Mass to open their general congregation, at which they will elect a new superior general.
