Emmanuel Community seeks to renew Church from within

Today the Emmanuel Community is known throughout the world for its Schools of Mission for young people, including one that will soon open in New York City. International missions work has also been a primary activity as an outgrowth of the Community’s focus on compassion and evangelization, along with their Zacchaeus Course, which aims to infuse Catholic Social Teaching in everyday life. Laurent Landete, who joined the Community at age twenty, has now spent almost three decades working to further this mission.

Blessing of St. Junipero statue celebrates Holy Spirit in saints’ lives

Cardinal Donald W. Wuerl of Washington blessed a statue of St. Junipero Serra on the day of Pentecost saying that the Holy Spirit which moved him is also “alive in each one of us.” Pope Francis canonized the saint during his 2015 visit to Washington.

The Holy Spirit is our wind and hope is our sail, pope says

“The Spirit is the wind pushing us forward, keeping us going,” Pope Francis said during his general audience at St. Peter’s Square May 31. Hope “collects the wind of the Spirit and transforms it into energy,” the pope continued, adding that we must share that hope not only with those who need it the most, but also with God’s creation.

Charismatic Catholics arrive in Rome for Spirit-filled week

Some 30,000 Charismatic Christians from 130 countries are in town for four days of high-octane praise and adoration prayers and liturgies, as well as workshops, testimonies, healings, and not a few invocations of the Holy Spirit. The events culminate in a vigil in the Circus Maximus with Pope Francis on Saturday evening, and Pentecost Mass in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday.

Controversial book ‘The Shack’ makes the leap from page to screen

“I love the way the Holy Trinity is presented in ‘The Shack,’” Octavia Spencer said. For some Christians this presentation has proven too controversial, and they disapprove of the book and the movie. But the book is very popular despite that, and the movie, ten years in the making, has just been released.
