Prosecutors on Saturday ordered a recently defrocked monk to be detained for four days pending an investigation into his alleged involvement in the death of the abbot of a prominent monastery in the desert northwest of Cairo.
For the monks of Mount Saint Bernard abbey, St. Patrick’s Day had a special significance this year: It was the first brew day of their new brewery.

A leading cleric of the Oriental Orthodox Churches, invited to the “Great and Holy Council” taking place in Crete only as observers, says that “humanly speaking, one cannot expect much from this synod … but we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit who can guide us at all levels.”
