Global religious persecution watchdog Open Doors USA is calling on the United States government to fight the persecution and mistreatment of Christians and other religious minorities in countries like China, India, and North Korea.
Despite these efforts at peacebuilding, “nothing will come from it” unless more freedom is given to the North’s oppressed Christian community, according to Open Doors, a leading Christian human rights organization.
There are more than 215 million persecuted Christians worldwide according to the 2018 World Watch List, Open Doors USA’s annual ranking of the 50 worst countries for violence and persecution against Christians.
For the 16th year in a row, North Korea tops the list of 50 countries ranked for the worst persecution of Christians in the world, according to the Christian watchdog organization Open Doors USA.
In recent years, hundreds of Christians have been kidnapped or wrongfully imprisoned, their faith used against them. This sampling helps illustrate how hard it can be for the “little guy,” meaning the estimated 200 million Christians around the world who live under constant threat.
