Three Paraguayan judges who gave a Catholic priest convicted of abusing a 14-year-old a light sentence have been suspended, authorities said Wednesday.
With the help of the Migrant and Refugee Section of the Vatican Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development, eight bishops’ conferences in Latin America have joined efforts to assist Venezuelans in transit through or settling in their home countries.
More than 60,000 people are expected to attend the June 23 beatification Mass of Maria Felicia Guggiari Echeverria at the General Pablo Rojas Stadium in Asuncion, the Paraguayan capital.
Thousands of Paraguayan pilgrims traveled Dec. 8 to the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Miracles of Caacupe, about 35 miles from Asuncion. Some walked hundreds of miles from cities and towns in the South American country to the city Pope Francis visited in 2015.
Over one hundred couples who had been living together but were not yet married celebrated their marriages in the Asunción Cathedral in Paraguay Nov. 15.
“Two years ago we had Pope Francis’s visit which was very moving for many people. Because of his closeness to the people, we wanted to put his name on the dining hall,” said parish priest Father Claudio Figueredo speaking about a parish charity that feeds many impoverished children.
