    Nirmala Carvalho writes from Mumbai, India. She holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in sociology, both from the University of Mumbai (known earlier as the University of Bombay). She’s been an AsiaNews correspondent since 2004, and in 2006 won the Communications Award from the Catholic Bishops Conference of India for “exceptional sensitivity to the Church and minority related issues”.

    In 2009 she received the "Staines International Award for Religious Harmony," acknowledging the achievements of recipients and encouraging human rights defenders around the world that the international community is grateful and supports their tireless efforts to promote human rights for all.
