ST. LOUIS — A bill under consideration by St. Louis aldermen has raised the concern of the Catholic archbishop of St. Louis.
Archbishop Robert Carlson issued a statement Tuesday urging aldermen to defeat a bill filed Dec. 2 by Alderwoman Megan-Ellyia Green that would add “reproductive health decisions” to the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance. The bill is currently in committee and no hearing has been set.
The proposal would provide protection against discrimination for “any decision related to the use or intended use of a particular drug, device or medical service, including the use or intended use of contraception or fertility control or the planned or intended initiation or termination of pregnancy.”
Carlson says the bill makes St. Louis a “sanctuary city for abortion.”
