PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Presque Isle police say they have arrested a man who pretended to be a minister and sexually abused children.

Police say 67-year-old James Morgan of Fort Fairfield was arrested Wednesday and charged with gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, and unlawful sexual touching. It’s not clear if Morgan has a lawyer.

Police say they know of two alleged victims under the age of 12 and there may be more.

Chief Matt Irwin says Morgan traveled around the state and even to Canada with children to a number of religious activities over the last few years.

Irwin says Morgan may have been a clergyman in the past.

According to the college’s website, Morgan was chaplain at Northern Maine Community College and the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
