DETROIT — A Catholic priest accused of child pornography crimes will remain in custody, at least until he’s transported to Detroit from Missouri.

The Rev. Richard Kurtz is accused of secretly recording hockey players in the locker room at University of Detroit Jesuit High School during the 1998-99 season. He was a teacher years ago at the all-boys school.

A St. Louis federal judge refused to release Kurtz with an electronic monitor Wednesday. He was arrested Monday at a center for wayward clergy in Dittmer, Missouri. U.S. marshals eventually will bring him to Detroit.

The FBI says the case is based on child pornography discovered by priests in 2011 at Kurtz’ residences in Chicago and Clarkston, Michigan.

Kurtz also is on probation in a sexual assault case in Douglas County, Colorado.
