Iraqis hope papal visit can help unify country's diverse communities

“When you look at the foreign policy priority of the Biden administration and that of the Papacy of Pope Francis there’s just tremendous overlap between priorities,” said Shaun Casey, Director of the Georgetown University Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs.
One of Pope Francis’s top advisers said that the pontiff sees the current world situation comparable to that of the Cuban missile crisis, World War II, or 9/11 – and that to fully understand the papal encyclical released on Sunday, it’s necessary to acknowledge “we’re on the brink.”
When it comes to several of the country’s racial and ethnic communities, one expert says, “a God gap simply doesn’t exist.” Instead, “most of them are both deeply religious and strongly Democratic.”
