Today I had a meeting at a hotel downtown. I drove up to the valet and inquired about the rates for valet parking. He asked whether I was paying myself or would be reimbursed by my employer. I said I was paying — which was true. He then offered me a $20 spot right at the hotel door or a $38 dollar slot in the attached garage.

I surmised that my $20 cash payment would go into his pocket, but of course have no direct knowledge of this. Was it morally acceptable to take advantage of the rock star parking spot? Are there other moral obligations in this situation (like telling the hotel) that I encumber, or can I just enjoy that my ignorance led to a blissfully easy departure at the meeting’s conclusion?
