DETROIT – A woman who authorities say conspired with a Detroit-area Catholic priest to steal money from a charity has been sentenced to five years of probation and a $5,000 fine.

The Detroit News reports 34-year-old Dorreca Brewer of Jackson was sentenced Tuesday in Wayne County court. She pleaded no contest to charges including embezzlement and conspiracy in a plea deal earlier this year.

The Rev. Timothy Kane was convicted last week of crimes including embezzlement of between $1,000 and $20,000 from a charitable institution. He will be sentenced in December.

Brewer’s lawyer had asked that she be ordered to pay $2,000. Prosecutors said she should also pay back $3,000 intended for needy applicants to the Angel Fund Catholic charity that they say she split with Kane.
