Recently, I had a tech issue related to my job too boring to relate here. The upshot, though, was that in the interest of efficiency (I was out of town; I left the equipment I needed at home; it would be at least a week before I could access my own gear), I bought a cheap and badly made DVD player at Staples in order to download an important video file onto my computer.

My husband, a tech whiz, downloaded the file in the Staples parking lot using the Staples wifi connection. Then he suggested we return the DVD player and get our money back, about $50. I said that wasn’t right. We bought the DVD player fair and square, and it did the job we needed it to do. We got what we paid for.

Who’s right?
