PORTLAND, Maine – The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development is giving more than $2 million to a Portland independent living facility owned by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
The diocese says HUD is giving the Deering Pavilion facility $2,049,655 for renovations. The 200-unit facility houses people 62 years of age and older and the physically handicapped. Diocese officials say the grant will allow it to replace old furnishings with ergonomic seating and tables, as well as improve individual units.
Diocese officials say the improvements will make the facility better suited to serve residents with disabilities.
